Stylized Kid Session: Beauty and the Beast

Last week I had a wonderful photo shoot with two little girls. My original inspiration behind this session was a Paris theme complete with Eiffel Towers, tea cups, pink, pink, and pink. However, that morning while gathering my props I noticed a few things tying together in a very disney way and I jumped from Paris to Beauty and the Beast inspired. Who doesn't love a
princess themed session anyway!?! Most of my Paris props worked from the session because it actually takes place in Paris (sing the songs in your head, they use a lot of french words <3)

So gather around and I'll read you a story from a book I read as a child. The story may be familiar to some of you as it is well known and loved. It's about a rose, a castle, some rather enchanting characters, and about the beauty of a young girl's love.

Once upon a time there was a young girl, or in this case, two young girls. They lived in a small town, they loved to run, sing, play games and read books. They loved to tell stories.

They could often be found on the ladders in the book store collecting books to read.

Often times they could be found on in the fields singing to each other.

One day the two girls had to move to a big castle out in the country where they had no contact with the outside world. They did not want to go, but at least they had each other.

When they arrived they discovered they were not as alone as they though. The girls discovered
a world of wonder and excitement and made many new, although strange, friends.

Every night the girls shared dinner with their new friends. Their friends loved to sing to them and entertain them as they ate.

The castle had an enormous library with books from floor to ceiling. The girls spent hours reading the books out by the water.

One day the girls discovered a mysterious rose in the castle. They began to question why this particular rose was so important.

Their new friends explained the story of the man who owned the castle. The girls had seen him frequently in the castle. He talked with them a little. He was often harsh which scared the girls but they continued to talk to him anyway. They told him stories from the books they read. In time he became quite fond of the girls' stories. He began joining them for dinner, accompanying them outside to play, and soon they all became good friends. They learned they all kept secrets but their friendship helped to remove the masks they wore and reveal their hearts.

Before the last petal on the rose fell this man needed to find love. Someone must accept him for the way he was, they way he looked and the way he acted. His friendship with the two girls had changed him so much from the inside out that when the last petal fell, he had found the love he needed in his friendship with the girls.

They were friends for the rest of their lives. They had many stories to tell the people in their lives and many new friends to introduce them to. They all learned the importance of being beautiful from the inside out, loving the people in their lives, and the importance of sharing a good story and singing songs while you eat. They all lived happily ever after.

Upon returning from their Beauty and the Beast inspired world, the girls went home and...you guessed it...read a book. Well, I actually don't know what they did, but I like to think they did! <3

Pet Session Tips

So I hear it's National Dog Day. Yay! I love photographing puppies!!

Here are some tips for your dog photo session with us and some great photos of my dog, Jayda, my mom's dog Lacey, and my aunt's two dogs, Jessie and Brandy. (Lacey and Jessie are from
the same litter, Jayda is from the litter after them, and Brandy is adopted)

Tip #1 Bring treats to bribe your dog. If you don't want to feed them a ton of treats, bring a ziplock full of their dry dog food to give them.

Tip #2 Give them time to explore their new surroundings, go to the bathroom, and get used to the photographer before the session begins.

Tip #3 If you want them dressed up or next to props get them used to it a few days before the session so they are not uncomfortable or scared.

Tip #4 Be aware that you will probably get frustrated with their behavior-they will run around, not cooperate and not do what you want them to do. We work with pets all the time so we are accustom to their behavior during a photo shoot. They don't act the same during a photo shoot as they normally do and will not respond to you the same way. It's okay, we don't mind spending a little extra time with them to get the photos!!

Tip #5 Bring some toys to play with. It will calm them down, get their focus off of the camera, and will make for some great photos.

Tip #6 When the dog has had enough, the session is over. Just like with kids, when it is no longer fun for your furry friend we stop. Pushing them into doing more never ends well.

Tip #7 No matter what your dog does it almost always looks amazing so don't worry if they aren't looking directly at the camera, sitting the exact right way, or if they fall asleep. They will still look amazing (much like babies...they look adorable no matter what)

Tip #8 Have fun! If you are relaxed, your pet will be too. They are taking their cues from you, so if you are calm and happy, they will be too. Engage with your dog, play, cuddle, do tricks, and have a ball with your photo shoot and it will be a success!!
